Selected for the 2009 Edinburgh Film festival. ‘Aquarium’ is a collaboration with Dhivya Kate Chetty and tells the story of one family's trip to Durban Aquarium in 1984. Walking along the then segregated beach front, this ethnically diverse family proves quite a spectacle for a society imprisoned in the apartheid laws of racial segregation and white supremacy.
This poignant film underlines the cruel and absurd laws that governed South Africa at the time; irrational laws which prohibited mixed marriages and carved a coastline into 3 separate, racially divided beaches.
